MSSRF is the first institution worldwide to have undertaken modern molecular marker based analysis of mangroves. These studies have provided substantial information for developing unambiguous identification systems for individual species, elucidating nature and extent of genetic diversity at intra- and inter population level, depicting interspecific relationship and establishing phylogenetic trends in mangroves. In addition, genetic indexing and characterization of cultivars and land races of nutritious millets, grain legumes, endemic and wild relatives of the cultivated species of the Eastern Ghats has been studied in great details and has provided significant information on elucidating intra- and interspecific relationship and assessment of intra- and inter population genetic diversity among the following species groups.
