MSSRF
has been involved in various multi-stakeholder dialogues and discussion
groups on scientific, social and ethical dimensions of biotechnology
research and applications, through public forums, seminars and symposia.
MSSRF has also launched a network of Genome Clubs for young students,
and women and men members of Panchayats and local bodies. The major
aim of these Clubs is to empower both students and Panchayat members
with basic knowledge on biotechnology to create capability for understanding
the positive and negative implications of scientific advancements. This
also provides a detailed exposure to Panchayat members on the provisions
relating to Farmers' Rights under the Protection of Plant Varieties
and Farmers Rights Act and its field level operationalisation as well
as those relating to the Biodiversity Act. The objective of the programme
is to create a cadre of mangers at the village level for conservation
and sustainable utilization of biodiversity and bioresources.
