Eco-enterprises
The Centre natures a job-led rural economic growth by promoting eco-entrepreneurship among landless and marginal households through Self Help Group (SHGs) and Farmers’ Associations. The Centre is actively facilitating the process of demystification and customization of technologies available in the universities and research institutions.



Some of the eco-enterprises promoted as group activities by the Centre are:
  • Handmade paper production from agricultural and hosiery waste
  • Production of biocontrol agents – Trichogramma chilonis
  • Production of biofungicides - Trichoderma viride and Pseudomonas fluorescens
  • Production of biofertilisers – Azospirillum, phosphobacteria and Arbuscular mycorrhiza
  • Production of bionematicide – Paeciliomyces
In addition to the above, as part of the Integrated Farming System (IFS) practiced, vermicomposting, mushroom production, poultry, aquaculture are promoted as an avenue for bringing in additional source of income.
Mobilisation of women and men, group formation and Federation of SHGs, identification of enterprises, customisation/demystification of the on-farm and off-farm technologies to suit the local conditions with appropriate forward and backward linkages, capacity building to manage the enterprises as a successful business venture are the crucial aspects involved in developing a multiple livelihood systems among the rural men and women.
