village is situated in a coastal region. Plenty of coconuts
are available in this village. The group has set-up a
coconut processing unit. They will be buying coconuts
in bulk quantity and process it and give it to the nearby
oil mills for extraction. This is a good example of where
the people take advantage of the resources locally available
and by adding time and labour are able to earn a livelihood
and generate income. |

As this area is not suitable for Diary
activity due to scarcity of water and fodder. The group
has started Calf - rearing and breeding. The price of
claves is around $ 80. Moreover, the requirement of feed
and maintenance cost is very less. They send the calves
for grazing in open land. At the appropriate time the
calves will be ready for artificial insemination. Then
they sell the calves for a good price, which is two, or
three times more than the amount invested in buying the
calves. This activity gives them additional income.The
group is not able to pay the loan installment regularly
due to internal group conflicts. MSSRF is addressing this
issue. |
