Activities of Integrated Pest Management Laboratory
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) laboratory focuses on research on bioprospecting, demystifying technologies and establishing viable micro enterprises and providing training and technical support to SHGs and farmers on various field problems. It has been intensively involved in exploring the pesticidal properties of traditional plants, such as Cipadessa baccifera, Clausena dentata, Dodonaea angustifolia and Melia dubia against major pests like Helicoverpa armigera, Spodoptera litura, Earias vitella, Leucinodes orbonalis, Phyllocnistis citrella etc. Technologies on mass multiplication of potential biocontrol agents namely Trichogramma, Chrysoperla, Tetrastichus, Cryptolaemus, Beauveria and Metarhizium has been developed and transferred to grass root institutions. In addition technologies on oyster mushroom spawn production has been developed. The laboratory has developed database and training materials on pests and diseases management of various crops. It caters to the field needs in the form of in-depth trainings, demonstration of ideal technologies and monitoring/follow-ups. Soil and water analysis from different field under the watershed programme is being analysed to estimate the nutrient status of agriculture and fallow lands. This would help in promoting crop production based on the Nutrient requirements and maintenance of the soil health card.
