The groups were formed Kaudasi, a reputed NGO working in Thanjavur on formation of SHGs and linking them with Banks. The groups are 2 years old and have regular saving habits and are homogenous. The SHG has started Gem cutting units. Gem cutting is traditional cottage industriy which has been a source of income and employment for people of Thanjavur and Trichy District. Both the groups have been in this business and have considerable experience. This loan would help them to purchase cutting and polishing machine, which will lead to employment and income to other members of the group. They work on job orders. The get gems in bulk from jewelers and merchants cut them in different shape and polish them with help of machines. The are being paid on piece rate by the merchants. More they work more the income. This will help the group members earn additional income.
