The Food Security Programme Area is engaged in research, advocacy, awareness creation, and community based interventions relating to food security issues under the aegis of the B V Rao Centre for Sustainable Food Security and the Ford Foundation Chair for Women and Sustainable Food Security. Reports on the status of food insecurity in rural and urban India are periodically published; dissemination and policy advocacy workshops targeting different groups are regularly organized; community based interventions such as the Community Foodgrain Banks, Kitchen gardens, capacity building of women farmers are undertaken; awareness creation on households' entitlements relating to government schemes on food and nutrition, feeding practices of young children and health issues pertaining to women are carried out. Currently, all field level interventions are across the MSSRF sites in Orissa, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.
