| Uttara Devi Chair/Resource Centre
in Gender and Development was set up 1996-97 in the
name of the late Uttara Devi, wife of the late Dr. B.V.
Rao by her family |

| It began functioning in October
1996 and was formally inaugurated in September 1997,
on the occasion of the birthday of the late Uttara Devi. |
| |
| The original endowment of 25 lakhs
was later raised to 30 lakhs, and since 1999 has been
supplemented by funds from the Ford Foundation Endowment. |
