Activity : In the year 2009 Friends of Straub in Tokyo Bank extended support to Maa Tara tharini SHG Lima panchayat Nauguda village, Jeypore which consists of 13 tribal women with an interest free loan of Rs. 20,000 and started Tamarind processing and marketing activity. It is a potential income generating activity for the landless and small farmers and poor households in tribal area of Nauguda. The availability of raw material price is low and there is high demand, value addition processing and marketing can be a better proposition to generate income and employment for the tribal poor women in their house itself. Tamarinds are usually sold to traders visiting the villages at the rate of Rs. 5 – 10 per kg. As the crop is seasonal in nature, the price fluctuates during the course of the year, being low during fruiting season and high during off-season.
