Enterprises : Minor Millets and Rice Mill
SHG Name : Malaivalam Mempattu Sangam SHG
Location : Chinnamangalam village, Kolli Hills, Tamil Nadu
Loan Distribution Date : April 2000
Activity : Harsha Raval Bank was opened in the year 2000 and utilized to support the groups in Kolli Hills- a very remote hilly area which produces minor millets and rice. There was no de-husking mill for minor millets. Minor millets are a source of micronutrients, but their production had declined for various reasons, one of the reasons is time taken for de-husking. Conserving these species, can be done only by reducing the drudgery involved in de-husking. So the group started a mill availing interest-free loan. The group was able to over come the drudgery of de-husking the millets, which use to take several hours of time and labour.
