Started his career as a Research Fellow at MSSRF in 1998, he had opportunity to work with the tribal communities, farmers and women, which helped him to acquire immense experience in the areas of conservation and sustainable utilization of biodiversity. In 2001, a team under his leadership implemented Natural Resource Management programme; promoted System of Rice Intensification, solved drinking water crisis of a tribal hamlet, prepared biodiversity registers of four Panchayaths and established a Village Knowledge Centre. He has also been involved in the preparation of a study report on the possibilities of setting up Agri Export Zone in Wayanad. In 2005 he has been promoted as Senior Scientist. Mr. Girigan secured an MPhil degree from University of Kerala.
