This is a complete drama with a duration of 30 minutes, which talks about the problems the women face in creating and maintaining self help groups which serves as a source of livelihood for these rural women.
 
Arangerum Ezhuchi
This is a unique attempt made by the Uttara Devi Resource Centre (UDRC) of mssrf to highlight the problems faced by women in creating and uplifting their own livelihood opportunities. A Group of women from various villages of Pondicherry have formed the group and project the necessity of uplifting womens' status in our society. This is a documentary in Tamil which has a duration of 10 minutes
 
Biodiversity, Natural Resources & Rural Livelihood - Film on SDC
This is a 12 mins film made on the Projects carried with the fund assisted by the Swiss Development Agency. This film briefly deals with the efforts carried over by our site offices at Kolli (Namakkal - TN), Wayanad (Kerala) and at Orissa. This documentary explains as how the remote villages are converted into NRM (Natural Resource Management) oriented villages, with community participation.

Message from mangroves - Film on Orissa Mangroves
 
This film produced during the year of 2004, gives a clean picture on the status of mangroves in Orissa. This film projects the initiatives made by mssrf in restoring the degraded mangroves with the participation of the local community. It explains the salient features of the LJSS and its functions, which have lead to success in restoring acres of degraded mangroves.
 
A way to Prospects - A Film on Kudankulam
 
This Coastal area near Tirunelveli district of tamilnadu is declared to be drought porn area which is under control of the atomic energy department. Being surrounded by the sea, the community here depends on the natural resource from the sea for their daily bread. This 10 minutes film on kudankulam explains about various micro enterprises set up as such, and how this comes in way of improving their livelihood. Members from various self-help groups share their experience in this film.

This film explains in detail as how women in the community, volunteer themselves to form self help groups and improve their livelihood, with the assistance provided by the foundation.

Scarascia Mugnozza - Community Gene Bank
 
MSSRF has set up the community gene banks in various parts of the country to conserve traditional genetic crop varieties, treasured for generations. This film, which runs for 10 minutes, gives a complete picture of how the local community is been involved in setting up these banks and its conservation. Case study of Komala Pujari, who got awarded with the Equador Initiative Title at the World Summit on Sustainable Development, explains the involvement of these community people, in conserving our traditional values. This film is produced during 2003.
 
Power of partnership - Friends of MSSRF
 
This 9 minutes film has the donors- Friends of MSSRF at Tokyo, as the target audience. Basically the film explains about how the funds donated are used to improve the livelihood of the local community. It briefs about the basics of a micro credit bank, its set up and its functions. Also in this, it is explained as how people are involved in starting an livelihood enterprise with the assistance of these micro credit banks, and how they make it possible to repay these loans. The loans returned by these successful enterprises, are invested in other enterprises, which are in need of financial assistance.
This film is done by the hindu media resource center of the mssrf, during March' 2004.
 
Gulf of Mannar
 
In the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve partnerships were created among the local communities, fisheries, forestry and agricultural departments, research institutes like the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) to enhance sustainable harvest of natural resources. A trust using the concept of trusteeship in natural resources has been established in close cooperation with the Government of Tamil Nadu. The activities in the area concentrate on providing land and water based income generation activities to reduce over-exploitation of the bio-resources of the Gulf of Mannar. Charcoal making, coir production, dairy farming, renovation of freshwater tanks are the land based activities. Community based agar production and fish pickle unit, creation of artificial reefs for the first time in the country, pearl cultures are some of the marine based Livelihoods.
 
Community Agrobiodiversity Centre
 
The Center at Wayanad, Kerala is a resource centre established with the intention of deriving benefits and claiming reward and recognition for the tribal and rural farm women and men involved in the conservation of Biodiversity.
 
MSSRF-A Mirror
 
The film is a depiction of the work done by the Foundation in the five Broad areas of: Coasta system research, bio-divesity and biotechnology, Eco technology, reaching the unreached and food security, education, communication, training and capacity building. More importantly, the film showcases successful strategies adopted for community development in participation and trusteeship with the local communities.
 
Women's Bio-Tech Park
 
Portrays the vision behind the Bio-tech Park, which promotes women
entrepreneurs in the field of biotechnology. It gives details regarding the nature of facilities and market linkage promoted by the park to motivate women professionals and facilitate income generation. The conducive environment promotes research and cutting edge innovations in the scientific arena.
 
Farmers' rights
 
The film was made in the light of the recent legislation 'Protection of Plant Variety and Farmers' Rights' Act enacted by the Indian state. In Order to operationalise the benefits of the legislation for the benefit of the rural and tribal farmwomen and men, resource centers have been established to facilitate the process of getting reward and recognition under the Act.
 
Hills of hope: Eastern Ghats
 
To commemorate the 'International Year of Mountains', the film depicts the issues and problems facing the Eastern Ghats: a biodiversity hot spot in India. It demonstrates the gradual but definite degradation of this eco-system and the necessary measures, which require to be taken in order to arrest this decline.
 
Voicing silence
This is a unique attempt of the Foundation in promoting women's theatre Through facilitating traditional forms such as folklore, music and drama to encourage the depiction of women's issues and alternative forms of expression.
 
Millets for better health and income
 
The movie depicts the attempts made by the foundation in reviving the cultivation of minor millets in the Kolli Hills of Namakkal district in Tamil Nadu by focusing on three interventions:
 
  • Creating a market linkage by linking the local producers (SHGs) to Food World in Chennai
  • As an attempt to reduce the drudgery associated with the production of millets, dehusking mills have been created.
  • to facilitate an improved seed storage of the millets, local seed structures 'dombai' have been created and managed with the assistance of the local communities.
 
Touch and smell garden
 
This is a vision of Prof Swaminathan under the 'every child a scientist Program' which views every child as an innovator and creator. Under this initiative a unique environment has been created for the visually handicapped children to experience and comprehend the joys of nature. A garden comprising of plants that can be identified through a strong sense of smell and touch have been placed with a brief description in Braille to facilitate an educative and pleasurable learning environment.
 
Eco entrepreneurship and sustainable development
 
The movie showcases some innovative examples in creating an economic stake in conservation and sustainable management of bioresources. It portrays the economic benefits that are flowing directly to the new section of eco-entrepreneurs who are involved in this process through the formation of self-help groups. It is believed that such eco entrepreneurships are one of the pathways to sustainable development.
 
Reaching the unreached: ICT
 
The film depicts a success story based in a Pondicherry village in Tamil Nadu wherein the new media in the form of internet and web based communication has been used as a tool to empower the rural fishing community. The facilities managed now by the local community themselves (largely women) are used to gather locally relevant information such as weather condition, market prices etc and has led to the generation of informed public opinion.
