| "The conservation work done, under the Prof.Scarascia Mugnozza genetic resource center and community gene bank during last 10 years has conferred several significant benefits. First it has developed the mechanism by which land races could be conserved, the revitalization of in-situ on farm conservation traditions of local women and men in remote areas. That has been facilitated. Secondly it has become possible to develop a methodology for converting the concept of farmers rights into reality. |
| Above all in the wake of titanic tsunami which ravaged many parts of asia including coastal tamilnadu, that has shown that there are many landraces conserved by local communities in rice and other crops which can withstand the fury of the tidal waves and salt water inclusion, in the paddy fields and now you see some of these varieties which have been conserved. Therefore we want to thank the National Bureau of Plant genetic Resources, in New Delhi for keeping duplicates of these invaluable treasures of selection by human beings for a long period of time." |
