MSSRF organized a media workshop on December 26,2005 to mark the first anniversary of Tsunami disaster. Representatives from print and visual media attended the workshop. Dr.M.Velayutham, Executive Director, welcomed the gathering and made a brief presentation about the MSSRF - Tsunami rehabilitation programmes and thanked all donors who supported the programme with a sense of social commitment and generosity. Prof.M.S.Swmainathan in his speech mentioned about the research on occurrence of disasters and disaster warning systems, for which he drew reference from "Nature" a journal, which pointed out, "five major events per year are expected". He said that identification of areas for post tsunami measures is very important. People should have multiple livelihoods to survive disasters. This was followed by the presentations of senior staff of the Foundation on different aspects of Tsunami rehabilitation. Representatives from communities shared their experiences in details and also suggested inputs for way forward towards a better Tsunami rehabilitation in the future. Tribal and non tribal representatives from Andaman and Nicobar Islands also participated in the workshop

MSSRF has coordinated a project design workshop in collaboration with Sarvodaya and ITTG, Sri Lanka with the support of CIDA and IDRC, Canada with objectives of developing bioshield, establishing Village Knowledge Centres and developing bioresources to address the livelihoods requirement of the coastal poor communities.
