‘Reboot Tamil Nadu’ event features ideas to strengthen agriculture post COVID-19

May 2020: The Tamil Nadu government plans to make villages self-sufficient and look at decentralized model in the post COVID scenario. Building business models and focusing on the nutrition component of agriculture were other ideas in the ‘Reboot Tamil Nadu’ online event organized by the Times of India. Principal Secretary Agriculture, Tamil Nadu, Mr Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Mr Ravichandran Purushothaman, and MSSRF Director for Agriculture-Nutrition-Health, Dr R V Bhavani participated in the event along with Mr Jayaraj Sivan, Times of India. The Secretary spoke of how the Tamil Nadu model had made an impact at the country-level and other states had been asked to follow the FPO direct sales model. Mr Purushothaman spoke of the importance of attracting youth and corporates to agriculture and horticulture. Dr Bhavani emphasized the agriculture-nutrition link and how building better nutrition and immunity, the community would be better able to cope with pandemics. The event was well-received online with a high viewership.
