Chennai, August 9, 2019: The three day international consultation on ‘Achieving Sustainable Development Goals and Strengthening Science for Climate Resilience’ ended up successfully at MSSRF today. The three main themes of the technical sessions were: Climate Change and Coastal Zone Management, Sustainable Livelihood, Nutrition and Health Security, Mainstreaming Biodiversity for Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development. Many eminent speakers around the globe participated in the consultation, presented papers and shared their opinions and suggestions during the discussions. Many other side events also took place during the three day international event. The farmers’ pavilion gave space to many farmers to market and to showcase their products at the event premises. A photo exhibition portrayed the 30 years journey of MSSRF and an art gallery of Prof M S Swaminathan exhibited the important events in his journey towards sustainable development. More than 45 students participated in the interaction session with Prof Swaminathan and raised their queries related to agriculture and development. During the second day of the international consultation, as a tribute to the custodian farmers, some of the farmers from Kerala, Odisha and Tamil Nadu were felicitated as ‘Plant Genome Saviors of Biodiversity Hotspots.’ MSSRF Science & Society Research Innovation Space visually explained MSSRF activities and research to the participants. On the third day of the event, a session was organised for the reminiscence of MSSRF by former colleagues and friends of MSSRF.
