World Pulses Day

February 10 is observed as World Pulses Day. On this day, we throwback on various initiatives that MSSRF has undertaken to promote and emphasize the importance of pulses, especially among smallholder farming communities.

Safe Storage of Pulses Seed and Grain with Triple Layer Polythene Bag

Pulses are the dried edible seeds of cultivated legumes and belong to the family of peas, beans and lentils. The protection of stored agricultural products against insect attack is essential for safe and steady supply of high quality food. Indian agriculture is seeing record crop production on one hand but increased farmers protests. In several states, farmers fear that a bumper crop combined with erratic monsoon will bring down prices and affect livelihood. Integrated grain processing unit inaugurated at Illupur 

The Illuppur Agriculture Producer Company Limited (IAPCL), which is facilitated by MSSRF, celebrated its third year of operations. IAPCL conducted its Annual General Body meeting on September 25, 2018.About 1000 people participated in this event to elect 15 new members as Board of Directors and to finalise their future plans. The company resolved to take up 3 core valued business in the next three years benefiting the farmers in the path of doubling their incomes. Read more



India – Morocco Partnership Towards Protein Security

MSSRF in collaboration with the OCP–Foundation (OCP) is implementing the India Morocco Food Legume Initiative (IMFLI) since 2012. A team from OCPF, Morocco and from other partners of IMFLI, visited India in March 2016, to interact with the farming communities as well scientists working on this initiative. MSSRF Signs MOA with Govt. of Odisha for Strengthening Livelihood and Nutrition Security of Koraput Farmers

MSSRF signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on July 2, 2018 with the Directorate of Agriculture and Food Production (DoA& FP), Govt. of Odisha, Bhubaneswar, for the implementation of the Project “Strengthening Livelihoods and Enhancing Food and Nutrition Security of Small and Marginal Farmers in Koraput District of Odisha through a Farming System Model”. The MoA was signed by Dr. V. Selvam, Executive Director, MSSRF, Chennai and Dr. M. Muthukumar, Director, Agriculture and Food Production, Govt. of Odisha. Read more



Pulses – productivity and profitability

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2016 as the ‘International Year of Pulses’ to raise awareness about pulses for health and nutrition, promote utilization of pulses for soil fertility and as a suitable crop in the context of climate change. It also aimed to encourage research, production and address challenges in the trade of pulses. Read more..
