To condole the passing of Mrs Mina Swaminathan and appreciate her contribution to the Foundation and beyond, the MSSRF family gathered online and at the Sambasivan Auditorium, Chennai, on the morning of March 15.
Trustees, staff members and friends expressed gratitude and grief in the presence of her daughters – Dr Madhura Swaminathan and Dr Nitya Rao.
Dr G N Hariharan, Executive Director – MSSRF requested for a minute’s silence to pray for the departed soul, and fondly recalled Mrs Swaminathan’s leadership in inculcating participatory research practices at the Foundation. Offering condolence, Dr R Rengalakshmi, Dr Israel Oliver King, Dr Velvizhi and Mrs Kowsalya shared personal moments and also professional learnings from Mrs Swaminathan.
MSSRF trustees – Dr Narayan G Hegde, Dr Kezevino Aram, Dr T Ramasami, Mr S Mahalingam, and the acting Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University Dr A S Krishnamoorthy expressed their grief and condolences virtually. Each spoke of her eminence in the social sciences field, and her strive to ensure equality in every aspect of her professional career and personal life.
After a floral tribute, a tree was planted in the MSSRF garden by Dr. Madhura Swaminathan and Dr Nitya Rao in memory of Mrs Mina Swaminathan.
