Prof Swaminathan: Letter to the Ambassador of Japan to India
I am very happy that His Majesty Naruhito will be taking over as Emperor from May 1. I had a great privilege of knowing his father Emperor Akihito. The first financial support for the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) at Chennai came from Japan. We have had very close working relationships with Japanese scientists. We also received the Blue Planet Prize and the Honda Prize. I am therefore writing this to send our prayers for the health and happiness of Emperor Naruhito.
I am also happy that the era of Japan’s next Emperor will be named ‘Reiwa’. This is very appropriate at this time since globally we must promote harmony. On behalf of everyone at MSSRF, we convey to the Emperor and the people of Japan our best wishes for their continued health and happiness based on the principle of harmony between nature and humankind and harmony within humankind.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
