Students given exposure on agricultural development work by MSSRF
Students from Horticulture College and Research Institute, Periyakulam, visited MSSRF sites at Kannivadi, Dindigul district, during 1st & 2nd week of February, 2023 as part of their Rural Horticulture Work Experience (RHWE) Project. Devaraj, MSSRF’s Development Coordinator, briefed them about the Foundation, and the students also learned about the Reddiarchatram Seed Growers Association, Village Knowledge Centre, Kulumai and Reddiarchatram Farmer Producer Organisations, and bio-input production. They were familiarised with various input, technical and financial services of the FPOs, also capacity-building programmes offered by MSSRF. Students visited the Agro-Meteorological Field Unit (AMFU) – an agro-advisory centre, and saw demonstrations on the effective of the weather forecast-based Agro Advisory Services (AAS) for farmers in the six surrounding districts.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
