Marking M. S. Swaminathan’s effort in bringing up Farmers’ Rights over Seeds
Unfolding the Potentials of Community Seed Banks for Food and Nutrition Security
Celebrating UN International Year of Cooperatives (IYC2025)
The 9th Wayanad Community Seed Festival, which will celebrate the agricultural heritage of Wayanad, will begin on 30th January at the Community Agrobiodiversity Centre of MSSRF in Wayanad, Kerala. The festival is being jointly organized by MSSRF, Wayanad Tribal Development Action Council and Seed Care. Farmers from four blocks of the district will participate in the seed festival with their agricultural crop varieties to represent the seed diversity of Wayanad. A National seminar on Seed Conservation and Farmers’ Rights is being organized in connection with the Seed Festival.
Prominent institutions and individuals from the country will participate in the seminar and interact with the farmers. The 9th Wayanad Seed Festival will be graced by the Honorable Minister for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Shri O.R. Kelu, on the 30th at 11 am. Along with this, the Community Genome Savior Awards will be presented to the winners. These awards are given to farmers from the tribal community who protect agricultural seed diversity and nurture their unique habitat. The Seed Pavillion will be inaugurated by Padma Shri Cheruvayal Raman at 10 am.
More than fifty exhibition stalls will be set up at the seed festival. In addition, there will be a facility for farmers to test their soil samples. In addition, various competitive programs will be organized for school children and poster presentations for college students.
