CGIAR IN MEXICO AND OTHER LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES

I have visited Mexico and the Latin American countries, Peru and Colombia.  CGIAR has research institutions in these countries. In Mexico, of course, the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) was where Dr. Norman Borlaug was working. He helped us greatly with hybrid wheat that led to the Green Revolution in India.

The International Potato Center (CIP) in Peru is known for its orange-fleshed sweet potato (OFSP)variety. CIP won the 2016 World Food Prize for its work in the micronutrient and vitamin biofortification of OFSP. My daughter Madhura was on the board of CIP.

The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) in Colombia is one of the 15 specialised research centres of CGIAR and is also the headquarters for the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security.
