51 children complete the ‘Every Child A Scientist’ programme at Poompuhar
29 girls and 22 boys from Panchayat Union Middle School Poompuhar and Government High School Kaveripoompattinam, completed the 15-day course through MSSRF’s Every Child A Scientist (ECAS) programme at the Fish For All Centre. They were awarded certificates on December 14, at a function organised by MSSRF. These are the first two batches of students who have completed the course out of the Poompuhar Centre.
Dr GN Hariharan, Executive Director, MSSRF, gave the special address and presented certificates to the students at the event in Poompuhar, on Dec 14, 2022. Special remarks were given by Mr. R. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Mayiladuthurai Dt, and Mr. Palanivel, District Employment Officer, Mayiladuthurai Dt. Dr. V.R Prabavathy, Director, Biotechnology, MSSRF, presented the overview of ECAS, while Dr.S. Velvizhi, Head, Fish for All Centre, MSSRF, Poompuhar, made the introductory speech.
The ECAS programme in Poompuhar was inaugurated by Thiru Siva V Meyyanathan, Minister for Environment and Climate Change, and Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Government of Tamil Nadu, during the 33rd MSSRF Annual Day Celebrations in August 2022.
In Chennai, the ECAS programme is supported by L&T. SWAYAM Foundation has supported the effort at Poompuhar.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
