To mark World Environment Day, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF)’s Coastal System Research (CSR) team, in collaboration with the forest department of Andhra Pradesh launched MISTHI programme on 5 June 2023. The programme was launched at Pulicat Lake by planting 1600 mangroves.
Mr. Maddila Gurumoorthy, Member of Parliament, Tirupathi was the chief guest. Mr. Nageswara Rao, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Tirupathi and Mr. Sri M. Samuel, Divisional Forest Officer, Pulicat participated in this event.
On the occasion of World Oceans Day, MSSRF’s team organised an awareness programme at Chinnagollapalem, Andhra Pradesh on conservation and management of mangroves and sustainable fishing practices. The event was conducted on June 10, 2023. Villagers were oriented on the importance of coastal forestry, use of appropriate fishing gears for sustainable harvest, and cage culture of fin fishes in the backwaters to utilise the sea bass fingerlings during monsoon season.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
