The major goal is to prepare agro-advisories for the medium-range weather forecast and disseminate them to men and women farmers using diverse communication channels. MSSRF is one of the partners among 130 Agro-Met Field Units (AMFUs) network, working in the six districts of the South agroclimatic zone in Tamil Nadu. It is supported by Meteorological Department(IMD), and the Ministry of Earth Sciences and the key partners are Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
