75th Anniversary of Dina Thanthi: Prof Swaminathan
November 6, 2017: On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Dina Thanthi, I wish to pay my tribute to its founder Thiru S P Adithanar for his vision in estalishing a powerful communication medium conferring multiple benefits to the people of Tamil Nadu and elsewhere. Adithanar when he was Minister for Agriculture, tried his best to improve production of raw materials for the paper industry of Tamil Nadu. He promoted the cultivation of jute, hibiscus and other fiber yielding plants. He also introduced soybean to Tamil Nadu. To me, he was a personal friend and guide in terms of choice of problems of importance to Indian farmers and farming. Also, when I received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1971, he organised a very well attended felicitation programme. He was proud that someone from Tamil Nadu has received this prestigious prize. Adithanar was not only visionary but a great leader committed to the knowledge and information empowerment of the people through Dina Thanthi. I wish Dina Thanthi continued success and growth in fulling the vision and mission of its Founder. I also wish the 75th anniversary function great success.
