Chennai, May 23, 2017: A delegation of farmers led by Mr P Ayyakannu, President, National South Indian River Linking Farmers’ Federation, met Prof M S Swaminathan at MSSRF today. The farmers who had just returned from Delhi, discussed various issues related to the agriculture situation in Tamil Nadu. They discussed the need for greater urgency in redress for farmers in the state. Prof Swaminathan has recently returned from a visit to Delhi, where he had discussions with senior officials at the Prime Minister’s office regarding doubling of farmers’ incomes by 2022. He had made several suggestions regarding making farming much more viable and profitable. The farmers’ delegation on Tuesday, shared their recommendations and demands that they were circulating and planning to present to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister as well.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
