The Fisher Friend Mobile Application (FFMA)  developed by MSSRF with support of Qualcomm and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has been recognized as one of the top global innovations by Global Resilience Partnership (GRP). The application was built to help small scale fishers respond to climate change by introducing adaptive capacities and providing access to scientific information and early warnings.

Now the mobile application is currently available in 9 languages, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, Odiya, Bangla and English covering 7 coastal states namely Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Kerala, Odisha, West Bengal and Karnataka. The application is used by 55,000 fisherfolks across 592 villages 59 coastal districts across these states.

The GRP recognised the FFMA as one of the 16 latest innovations under the GRP Innovation Challenge for Food and Water Security and Principal Scientist MSSRF, Dr R Velvizhi participated recently in a mentoring workshop held in London along with the other top innovators. MSSRF acknowledges the generous support of its partners Qualcomm and INCOIS in making this global innovation possible.
