Koraput farmer supported by MSSRF is awarded ‘Best SMI Farmer’ by Odisha Government
Budura Hantal, a progressive farmer from Bariaguda village, Kundra block, Koraput district, Odisha, made significant strides in millet cultivation by adopting the System of Millet Intensification (SMI) method under the guidance of M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, through the Odisha Millet Mission project.
He was recognised by the Koraput District Administration in PARAB 2023, by the Principal Secretary of Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Government of Odisha, Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, on December 27, 2023. He handed over the award to Budura Hantal in the presence of other dignitaries including Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Skill Development & Technical Education Department and Commerce & Transport Department, and Collector & District Magistrate, Koraput Shri Abdaal M. Akhtar, IAS.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
