MSSRF Scientist Participates in Sixth Global Botanical Garden Congress
June 2017: Mr V V Sivan, Scientist at the Community Agrobiodiversity Centre-MSSRF, Wayanad, participated in the 6th Global Botanical Garden Congress in Geneva, Switzerland from June 25-30, 2017. He presented a paper ‘Conserving the Rare Endemic and Threatened (RET) species of Western Ghats, India – the M S Swaminathan Botanical Garden Approach’. The Congress was organized by the Botanical Garden Conservation International (BGCI)in collaboration with several other organizations. The main theme of the Congress was ‘Botanic Gardens in Society: Visions for the Future’. Around 200 papers were presented in the Congress and 480 delegates from 70 countries attended it. There were five participants from India, three from south India and two from north India. MSSRF was the sole participant from Kerala.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
