MSSRF has entered a partnership with Makers Hive Innovations Pvt Ltd based at Hyderabad on 29 June 2018 for two years to test and implement the solutions for application of Internet of Things (IoT) in agriculture production. It aimed to develop a model for small farmer friendly precision farming system using sensors, drones, control systems, GIS, robotics, cloud computing and machine learning based approaches. Appropriate simple tools will be evolved, like soil moisture and nutrients probes, automating the irrigation systems, yield forecasting apps etc would be part of the proposed initiative. Makers Hive will work in collaboration with MSSRF by extending all technical inputs for field testing and fine-tuning the model.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
