January 12, 2018: Today is National Youth Day coinciding with Swami Vivekananda’s birthday. Swami Vivekananda always advised youth to do their best for the nation and to human kind as a whole. His message has inspired a very large number of young people who hold Vivekananda in great esteem. On this National Youth Day, our major commitment should be to provide the youth of our country an opportunity for a productive and healthy life. Youth can contribute much provided they are given opportunity to do so. For example, cleaning of Ganga can be done by student volunteers located all along the banks of the Ganges, starting from Gangotri and ending with Sagar in Sundarbans. Youth can also play a very significant role in bringing to reality the concept of a hunger free India. Swami Vivekananda’s slogan “Arise my countrymen” can be applied to many national programmes in our country. The National Youth Day should be a day of dedication to the nation and to the empowerment of youth.
