Prof Swaminathan calls for passing Women’s Reservation Bill
Prof Swaminathan calls for passing Women’s Reservation Bill.
Speaking at the event on “Land Rights for Women Farmers” in Chennai yesterday, Prof Swaminathan, Founder, MSSRF, reminded the Centre of the Constitution Amendment for Women providing for reservation of one-third of seats for women in the State Assemblies and in Parliament. This has already been passed in the Rajya Sabha. “It is a great opportunity to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha as a Bill passed in Rajya Sabha does not lapse and the ruling party has favourable numbers in Lok Sabha. I hope the ruling party will complete this process towards social and political empowerment of women.” said Prof Swaminathan.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
