Prof Swaminathan to receive Vanarai Foundation’s award
Chennai, October 12, 2018: Prof M S Swaminathan, Founder, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation will be receiving the “Lt. Dr. Mohan Dharia Rashtranirman Puraskar” award from the Vanarai Foundation. The award will be given to Prof Swaminathan by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Shri Banwarilalji Purohit at a function at Raj Bhavan on Saturday, October 13 at 5pm.
The award was set up in memory of the great freedom fighter, Padma Vibhushan awardee, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Government of India, and founder of the Vanarai Foundation, the late Dr Mohan Daria. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Hon’ble Shri Devendra Fadanvis, patron of the Vanarai Foundation and former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, Shri Ajay Sancheti will be the guests of honour. Renowned social activist and Padmashree awardee Bansilal Rathi will be the Chief Guest of the function.
According to the Vanarai Foundation, the Lt. Dr. Mohan Dharia Rashtranirman Puraskar is awarded every year “to a towering personality who has contributed immensely to national reconstruction in a cogent and impactful manner of consequence and relevance”.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
