Research Associate’s visit under Indo-Australian Biotechnology Fund Exchange Programme
As part of a two month (November 15, 2018 to December 17, 2018) exchange visit under the Indo-Australian Biotechnology Fund (IABF) programme, Dr. Gothandapani Sellamuthu a Research Associate working in the plant molecular biology laboratory of MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai visited the laboratory of Prof Sergey Shabala at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) in Australia. He gained experience in using electrophysiological techniques to understand salinity tolerance mechanisms in halophytic wild rice oryza coarctata and cultivated rice. He also presented the work being carried out by MSSRF at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA) in the IABF project and had discussions with Prof Meixue Zhou and Prof Holger Meinke (Australian Co-investigators in the project) with regard to project progress.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
