Secretary Dominguez will be touching upon the Philippine Growth story as well as President Rodrigo Duterte’s socioeconomic agenda as part of his lecture. India and Philippines were early adopters of modern rice breeds and have shared expertise in the field. In fact, India’s cultivation of those high-yield breeds in the past decades saved millions of people from starvation.Professor M S Swaminathan and Secretary Dominguez have known each other ever since the former’s appointment as Director General of the International Rice Research Institute, Philippines in the 1980s.
Currently holding the finance portfolio, Secretary Dominguez was earlier the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Natural Resources and Agriculture, and has also helmed the Bank of the Philippine Islands’ Agricultural Bank.
Given his expertise both in agriculture and finance, Secretary Dominguez will no doubt offer valuable insights and strategies to combat hunger, in his lecture and in the interaction thereafter.
