September 25, 2017: Probably in the history of science there has been no other occasion when so many Nobel laureates have come together to plead for justice and appreciation of Ismail Serageldin, the founder of the Alexandria Library. While he has done monumental work, it is unfortunate that he has been convicted, leading to shock among the scientific community. Now, over 90 Nobel laureates have come together signing a letter of support to Serageldin. I’m happy to read the editorial in the recent issue of @Nature under the title, “Support Ismail Seregeldin”, where the magazine notes that he should be ‘celebrated not prosecuted’. I hope all will end well with Serageldin’s stature enhanced in the public, professional and political mind.
