Upcoming event: Stakeholder Consultation on ‘Upscaling of Fisher Friend Mobile Application’ on 27th Feb, 2019
The Fisher Friend Mobile Application (Fisher Friend) is an Android based application available in 9 regional languages of Coastal India, that has been used for providing access to all relevant information and knowledge related to fishing to the small craft fishers.
The Fisher Friend Application that is available in 9 languages is currently being implemented in 7 states of India, is enabling nearly 50000 fisher folk to access the application with a total of 48 lakhs screen views of information services. We continue to receive feedbacks and success stories from the fisherfolk reiterating their experience of increased economic benefit with reduced risks besides other benefits.
As we are also in the process of scaling up of Fisher Friend, we are devising state-specific strategies to promote and scale up this proven model of Fisher Friend across Tamil Nadu. In order to evolve suitable strategies of upscaling and to explore collaborative opportunities in consultation with key stakeholders, we are organising a state level stakeholder consultation on 27th February 2019 at M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai.
We have invited key stakeholders from the Government, NGOs, Network Providers, Fishermen Associations, and Academic / Research Institutions for this consultation.
