Five scientists from the Tanzanian Agriculture Research Institute (TARI) visited the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) field sites. They received practical training on the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method of paddy cultivation, establishing and running community-owned Village Knowledge Centers (VKCs), and the Plant Clinic programme. They also had an interaction with the Pudukkottai District Collector and officials from the Agriculture Department. This visit is part of the MFA Norway and NIBIO supported project on institutional capacity building for climate-resilient rice production with a focus on SRI in Tanzania.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
