October 16 is World Food Day. This is a day designated by the United Nations to commit to issues related to food and nutrition security. To commemorate this day, MSSRF is organizing a seminar on ‘Achieving the Goal of a Malnutrition Free India’.
The Minister for Social Welfare and the Nutritious Noon Meal Programme, Tamil Nadu, Dr. V Saroja, Prof M S Swaminathan, Founder MSSRF, Dr G.S Toteja, Senior Deputy Director General, ICMR and Mr Job Zachariah, Chief of Office, UNICEF Tamil Nadu and Kerala, speak on the occasion.
The Social Welfare Minister will also launch a new initiative of a genetic garden of naturally bio-fortified plants to address malnutrition.
M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) established in 1988 is a not-for-profit trust. MSSRF was envisioned and founded by Professor M S Swaminathan, agriculture scientist with proceeds from the First World Food Prize that he received in 1987.
